Custom Builds!

There are many aspects of running a bike shop that are incredibly gratifying. One of those is the ability to offer bicycles that one won’t find in the pages of a catalog, but instead the imagination of your local grimy fingered bike mechanic.

pake3

A lovely example of the adaptability of the Pake C’mute frameset. Built around a Sram iMotion 3 speed drivetrain and an eye for the classic.

yellowriderz

Fast like runny eggs on a Sunday morning. The NS Analog fixed gear freestyle frame was the perfect platform for this cranky little cruiser.

ceres_belt

Norco Bikes recently discontinued the legendary Reynolds-constructed Ceres belt drive bicycle. After our tears dried, we swore that we’d scour their warehouses to find one last frame. This is it! Custom powdercoat, Alfine drivetrain, racks for days and disc brakes transform what was once a fine bicycle into the one ridiculously fun townie/tourer.

gobfuji

Fuji has consistently done their touring model right for years. Our customer agreed and decided that this model was ripe for customization. We were happy to oblige, leaving very little untouched. Custom paint, decals and a heavily modified cockpit make for an amazing showpiece for Girlsonbikes.org

ritamixte

We tried to get photos of this last year when we built it for a customer, but she was too excited and we were too slow. Still beautiful and wearing like iron. Hell Yeah!

randokalrissian

rush

randokalrissian

This Soma Rush build was inspired by the custom motorcycle culture of Southern California.

doublexdisc

Powdercoated to the customer’s specifications and built up as a graceful all-rounder. Another manifestation of the Soma Doublecross.

somasmoothie

Stark and beautiful in line and adornment. With a slightly more compact geometry the Soma Smoothie sports sharp and moderately agressive handling without sacrificing all day comfort.

The need for long term reliability was clear. That the bike had to be beautiful was equally important. Although there may be some well regarded names attached to this build (Paul, Phil, Schmidt, Nitto and Sugino), the primary criteria for inclusion of any component was the knowledge that each and every one of them be, without a doubt, well thought out and durable. Once that was taken care of, the thoughtful and elegant integration of frame and components became the driving force. We are very pleased with the end result. Daily Commuter, Seasonal Tourer and Lifetime Friend.

somastanyan

This Soma Stanyan frame was built up with utility in mind and nothing but class in it’s heart. If you are into lugs, chrome and classic geometry without a three year wait…look no further.

sethcx

Custom powder-coated Norco CCX 1 frame built for long, hilly rides in the dirt. Light, versatile and eye-catching.

smoothes

The Soma Smoothie ES. Why add a snappy description when the last two letters of this bike’s name will do? E. S. Extra Smooth. We recently built this around a customer’s dream of a fast commuter and weekend adventurer. Not shabby at all.

kwestbasket

The venerable and long since discontinued Norco Kwest touring bike has a special spot in our hearts. We have combined the long wheelbase of the original with a workhorse drivetrain and an integrated handlebar and basket combination. Perfect for deliveries or taking your pet cinderblock to the park.

3 speed built upon an IDENTITI fixed gear freestyle frame…more fun than should be allowed.

Pake C’mute basket bike. Yeah, that’s what we call it. 54cm frame (they fit large…think 56cm) built up with a 9 speed drivetrain and a plenty upright position for cranking from office to farmer’s market to estate sale – FAST.

Pake is great. As a company, they keep it simple by offering only a few economical yet well thought out frames. We like ‘em and enjoy building them up every which way.

Want a fun and interesting bicycle to explore the countryside on…or to tear through the brunch circuit? Our take on the classic touring rig – the Pake C’mute frame in a splendidly understated gray with silver and butterscotch accents. Fan-tas-tic!

bbmixte1small

bbmixte2small

The Soma Buena Vista mixte frame. Available in both a sharp and proper iridescent graphite and an utterly gorgeous pearl white. This is Soma’s take on the traditional French mixte…and the humble Japanese variety more commonly found around town. There’s a reason that they are so popular. As a design the mixte is amazingly adaptable (such as this example built for our resident Stephen Hawking/Baron Munchausen) and a joy to ride by women and men alike.
